Who will step up to solve pension problems?

Wednesday, September 04, 2013

Ah, Labor Day! Time to kick back, enjoy what little is left of a Chicago summer and engage in some friendly debate about whether this finally will be the year that Jay Cutler delivers for the Bears.
I had thought this Labor Day also would be the time to hoist a cold one to cheer something else. Two and a half months after the General Assembly formed a pension-reform conference committee and six weeks after Gov. Pat Quinn sequestered lawmakers' pay to force action, Springfield pols certainly would be taking a well-earned rest after finally completing a pension deal critical to Illinois' economy, right?
Um, wrong.
